Moving into a house with live EE broadband, can I use another EE router?

Hi all. My moving into a new house that has EE, but the existing owners didn't notify EE that they were moving until too late. Meaning I can't switch over (not EE) to the new house for 3 weeks. Because of my work this is unacceptable. If I bought an EE router, could I plug that in as usual and use it as hotspot, or would this not work without the existing email and password?

@Dony1888  There’s nothing stopping you from changing BB provider if you want to.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

I am changing, but I can't change until 3 weeks after I move in. So I need an internet solution for the first 3 weeks. Hence why Im asking if I could buy an EE router and plug it in, seeing as the line will be live?

@Dony1888 , it does not have to be an EE router for broadband to work, for instance I use Netgear, others use a different one.

To contact EE customer service dial 150 from your mobile phone or ring customer service for free using web based app or another phone: +44 800 079 8586 or +44 800 956 6000.

@Dony1888 The problem as I see it is this; until the line is deactivated/switched it is still associated with the previous owners account. So you will almost certainly need their account details to set up a router, and of course their permission as they will get billed for your usage. If they’ve cancelled their direct debit that would lead to a whole world of pain for them (debt collectors especially).

You could use any compatible router but you would need to know the original owners' BB creds to put into the router. If you could get hold a compatible EE router & reset it, it would pick these up automatically.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Home Broadband & Home Phone or Option 2 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

@Captgeneralmark : As they have not yet cancelled their BB, the previous owners will be paying for it anyway. BB is not charged by amount of usage, only by a monthly subs. If they cancelled their DD that is their own lookout.

None of which affects the OP, other than the legal permission.

@XRaySpeX I agree about broadband charges, but I was also thinking about phone calls. When I was with EE, only evening and weekend calls were included. Any other calls were charged.

@Captgeneralmark : True, but I was thinking that not many peeps use landlines for calls these days & OP's priority is to get BB for the 3 weeks.
