Hello,
My elderly Mum currently has
A landline & ADSL broadband provided by Plusnet
and
A telecare alarm provided by the local council. This is NOT connected to the landline or the ADSL Broadband. It links somehow via the mobile phone system.
Plusnet wanted to transfer my Mum to EE and use FTTP technology. I’m happy about this; I understand we want to get rid of copper etc.
EE now say they can’t transfer to FTTP because she has a telecare alarm, even though the telecare alarm is independent.
EE states that I have to use BT as my ISP and land landline. I have no objections apart from BT apart from charges are £15 PCM more than EE and the broadband speed will be only 25mbs (FTTP).
Is this really the case?
Do I have to use BT, because of a telecare alarm that has nothing to do with it ?
Any advice?
Thank you in advance.

Does this telecare alarm work when the mobile phone is switched off completely?
If she were on FTTP the speed will be much faster than 25 Meg.

@chrisxbates Where are you getting the such low speeds from? If EE does not wish to take your mum on then BT is the ISP to do it.

The telecare alarm has it's own SIM and Battery back up.

The 25mbs was quoted by BT this morning, as their basic FTTP system. I quizzed him about it.

@chrisxbates You may find that BT are supplying a Hybrid Landline DV also to fall over to Mobile operation when/if the FF Full Fibre network goes down, Motorola FW500 phone.
Emergency Phone FW500 User Guide
FF150 is BT starter for 10, is there possibly a social tariff involved with your mum, ie BB/DV at the £20 / month if so then speed does get pushed back a lot lower even though FF Full Fibre is connected?

Thanks

@chrisxbates Just moved my sister away from EE, they are clueless when Vulnerable status becomes involved she has it all, pendant/ smart watch 4/5g mobile connect, 2 off battery backup ONT/Hub, wheelchair bound you name it, and i have to still make the 45mile trip up for anything, transfer away is 7th Oct.... Hope the BT works out you can only but try.
EE i think on Broadband DO NOT have any care packages if that helps also.

It looks like BT want to put her on FTTP but only with like-for like speeds to her existing ADSL.
Does the Telecare Alarm work correctly when the SIM is removed? It could be the SIM & mobile network connection is only there as fallback in case the call over BB/DV fails or v.v. There are phone handsets with SIMs for the vulnerable that are designed to do that.

@chrisxbates , if the telecare alarm has its own SIM card, then I do not see why EE cannot allow it to be used, as I have one and it uses SIM card, has two now since they updated them last year, with two sim cards in case one network does not work and the other then works, although I have never used it.
I had it, because social services decided I should have it, with having a disabled daughter, who died in January. I have had them for years now, always using the SIM card, but were updated to move with the times.
