Hi, as of yesterday 30th March, our landline stopped working. Our EE hub/internet is fine but our landline phone is Completely dead, No dial tone, not even when it is the only thing connected in to the ‘test’ socket.
Also borrowed a friend’s phone and plugged that in, to normal socket and also in to the ‘test’ socket but still Nothing, Completely silent/dead, No dial tone.
Is it unusual for the test socket, to also not be working ?
There are no other extensions, or phones in the house, other than mobiles.
We live in a fairly remote rural area, where mobile signal can sometimes be a bit hit and miss, so tend to rely on landline.
Any advice/help ASAP would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

You probably have a "one-leg broken" fault (technically "HR Dis"). A landline consists of 2 wires, both of which are needed for voice, but only any 1 for BB. Usually when this happens the BB runs slower than usual.
It is likely that the break occurs between you & the exchange, but it needs EE to call out Openreach to fix it.

Thank you - your reply to another customer helped me too - my issue has turned out to be a major fault in the local area affecting plenty of others as well - now just have to wait for the engineers to fix it ...
