Morning Everyone,
After waiting for any news, I saw that the new WiFi 7 is being advertised and the Smart Home Pro is available.
So I’ve signed up for the 1.6Gb package which includes the WiFi 7 Router.
I will update this post once I receive everything and I’ll do a full review.
I get the new iPhone 16 Pro Max this Friday on launch which is WiFi 7 so I’ll be able to test out the new WiFi capabilities and then I’ll do a wired test to my gaming PC.
Estimated Date for equipment = 28 September 2024
Date for Installation - 2nd October 2024 - 8am to 1pm.
Although I don’t need an engineer as I have everything in place from my previous internet so will see if I can just plug in myself 😄

Sorry to hear that you were misadvised on this.
I think what you experienced was likely an issue with the terminology and training for the agent. WiFi 7 is categorically only included on the 1.6Gbps Full Fibre packages, whereas the 900Mbps package includes/requires the WiFi 6 Router for all customers.
The confusion probably comes from the fact BT to EE transferred customers keep their BT Smart Hub 2 (WiFi 5) unless they move to the 900Mbps package which sends out a WiFi 6 EE Smart Hub Plus. BT to EE migrated customers on anything below the 900Mbps package (e.g 36, 74, 150, 300 or 500 Mbps) keep their old BT hub.
Any customers on Full Fibre with 150 Mbps or higher are now able to add the Smart WiFi Pro package at £10pm which sends out the new and improved WiFi 7 EE Smart Hub Pro and Smart WiFi Pro extender.

I ordered the same package was meant to go live on the 30th September.. my equipment came and it was the old hub not wifi 7 was mega confused.. after many phone calls I was informed I couldn't get it in my area because they have to fit something underground and it was something they would be doing over time so could be months before my area was done. Was upsetting to say the least.. so having to stick with the 900mbps package till then 😞

Were you already on BT or New EE?
Currently migrated or existing customers can't order the 1.6Gbps because of the ordering system on a new tech stack only allowing for brand new connections. Not usually an issue with engineering work needing to be done in the area as if you check EE.co.uk it's probably available on there, it is just more of a current system limitation. All 1.6Gb requires is Openreach to fit a new ONT.
However you should be able to order WiFi 7 regardless of your speed (as long as its over 150Mbps.) It is just a matter of the agent adding the Smart WiFi Pro addon to your deal at £10pm and you get the new hub and extender. (a very good value for the tech you get)
All customers moving to 900Mbps get the WiFi 6 equipment (EE Smart Hub Plus) as part of their package at no extra cost, but not WiFi 7 as it is only available *inclusively* on 1.6Gbps packages.

So I have just moved house and had a engineer round to install the open reach box for full fiber currently on the bt 900mbps. So I won't be able to get the 1.6gbps package now then! That's frustrating as I only set up the bt wifi like 3 weeks ago.

Yeah currently you have to be a completely new customer, but it's not because "only new customers get the good things" as some people tend to espouse, it's purely a technical limitation that they are working on to allow all customers to be able to upgrade to it. The current packages up to and including 900Mbps on BT and EE use an entirely different management and ordering process for the 1.6Gb so this has to rectified before customers can upgrade as there could be losses of service or incorrect charges etc. They are working on it and in the future you most likely will be able to get it. But you can upgrade to WiFi 7 through the addon, just on the 900Mbps speed.

Ahhh OK.. so I need to move to ee first to be able to do the add on as I'm currently with bt then, Thank you for your help! Much appreciated.

Yup that's the one, all of new equipment and services are to be exclusively EE (powered by BT) going forwards. Customers on BT are able to migrate mid-contract but have to maintain or increase their monthly tariff, either call up or go into a local EE store and you should get sorted.
Also if you have or want EE Mobile, the discounted tariffs for EE BB customers start at £10pm (different speed tiers available) for Unlimited SIMs on a 30 day contract, or a free unlimited boost on your current plan if eligible. Just make sure the agent links the accounts correctly.
No worries at all, glad to help.

I've submitted a formal complaint over the way they have treated me and asked how and when I can get the add-on for Wifi 7. I'm currently not interested in upgrading to 1.6Gbps I just wanted the Wifi 7 add-on which they can't currently do for me, all I'm after is a time frame I don't mind waiting but the way they messed be around and fobbed me off is simply not good enough.

Do you currently have Smart WiFi (extenders) on your contract that you pay for or what kind of package are you currently on? My only thinking is it may be an issue they're having with swapping the addons out. Other than that being an issue, I'd be really surprised that they can't just add it.
