Hi all,
I running a VPN of my Raspberry pi, which seems to work fine, until x amount of days and then the connection just fails.
Disconnect the VPN. Works fine again.
It must be the VPN I hear you say. After a reinstall, it works again, however I think I may be due my external IP address changing on a regular basis.
This is because my VPN askes for the IP or the router.
Can anyone confirm if this is the case or not?

@w1lkesy_ all EE home broadband lines have a dynamic IP, but only change if sync to the router is lost - or the line drops. That said, they are fairly sticky and can often come back on the same one.
You can check, and keep track of it by logging into the router. If you are seeing frequent drops then get EE to look at it.
But also, not sure VPN's are meant to stay up for days on end. Who is your VPN provider, and what do you need it foe - you don;t have to answer that one - could you just use it for the period you need it?

@MustrumThere is no reason a VPN can't be used 24/7 if a user wishes.

The EE Smart Hub allocates a 1 day lease by default (See Home>Advanced settings>My network>IPv4 configuration)
This may be the cause of the dropped connection. Have you set the IP address for the RPi as reserved by enabling the 'Always use this IP address' in the 'Address table' section?

Ok, is there a service that could "fix" this to make a dynamic IP a static one? Like for example OpenDNS for IP address.

Sort of! It's called a Dynamic DNS (DDNS) service. Have a look at NOIP as a free 1.
