Broadband speed issue

I took a 900 speed deal out recently. Managed to get issue resolved by engineer visit,  the hub wasn't set up properly when it was updated. I recommend a engineer to always test every port speed for you and wifi and incoming speed on there equipment I did. I got all the evidence that proved it was phone that can not handle the speed. Engineer showed me all test readings I had a really good engineer to visit.

Engineer had laptop, a top spec phone personal and company phone for test proof. I had my personal phone side by side on my network he clocked 896mbs on his personal top spec phone I had 326.

Better processor and engine.

I feel i have to much horsepower coming in. I am not a gamer or heavy user. So in process to drop speed using common sense.

I don't need to buy a flashy phone to prove I can clock full speed.

I love my midrange phone for now and it's still wifi 5 device.

I hope my information helps other members.

Just like a car to much horsepower unable to use it all.  Also only a general streamer and have home cctv and set top box for the odd occasion download.

I can see no issue in that.

It's not the eng's job to test speeds from the router. He's there to install BB & check it's delivering the correct speeds to the router.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

I believe it's the engineers job. That's why the engineer is the one who said you have a fault.  Just wondered who's job is it if you have a fault?

Maybe because I spoke to ee more pleasantly and smartly with words they assisted me more.

He also had access to my junction box through his equipment  which I don't have the equipment to access it.

@MrPP Which engineer did you have, was it from OR the network provider, or one from EE support.? As you do not mention what was involved, and if you had/have a specific EE Router attached to your FF 900 service.

It was bt/ee engineer.  Was ee smart hub plus.  Noting else connected. No extenders just stand alone router.

Kind regards.

@MrPP With the EE Smarthub+ router that you have, there is not really anything to setup as it should be good to go right out off the box, but you may have had a wireless WPA issue that the EE engineer sorted out for you.

Correct that it is device specific for the wireless download speed capability to achieve, at least you are aware that the service is up at the 900mb/s as he kindly showed you. Should you ever wish to test and keep aware, if you do have an Ethernet connected device that then is the best way to check PC/Laptop etc, that will confirm to how good it can be also, but most within the last 5 years or so easily get to the FF 900 speeds, speed test's do not push the boundaries and are a helpful guide to the performance. HTH

I might as well bang my head against a brickwall.

Openreach engineer never said you have wifi issue.

A fault was found in the hub.

About speed. Have no issues had 980 and 120 he logged in from my junction port to my telephone exchange.

I don't have laptop or PC. Never needed one.

Kind regards.

@MrPP That is correct, if you read what @XRaySpeX posted back in his reply, the OR Engineer is there to install the FF 900 BB ONT and Fibre cable, he would have tested that the part he was doing is GOOD to go, which it was/is.

Think this way, that there are many, many different ISP's for Broadband that OR have connecting to the system, THEY cannot be master's and know Every single type of Router that can connect. It's down to you or the ISP that you have to get any issue's sorted. The EE/BT service visit fixed the required for you, and that is 100% correct way to do it.

I have no WiFi issue my device is wifi 5. A low to mid range phone. If you want the best performance and speed a high spec phones offer it. Better cpu chips memory etc. I don't need to sit there or show off I have 900 package when not actually used to be honest. When Internet tells you only need few mbs to stream or upload emails.

Kind regards
