I've just joined ee broadband and home phone my Internet was activated yesterday and today I've received an email saying my payment is due on the 15th March for the full months price is this normal, do I pay upfront for these services

Yes, you pay for all BB monthly in advance. On your 1st bill you might have a few days extra from activation until your billing date which probably today.
