Battery Backup for WIfi 7 Router

Hi,

I have just renewed my Broadband/Landline contract with BT. (Still in the cooling off period).  I also requested a tech guy to check out my wifi  as it has a few issues. One of the things that came up was that my existing router may require upgrading to improve the wifi signal strength. This is EE's Wifi 7 Smart Hub. As I understand it, BT no longer supplies upgrades to their routers (namely their Home Hub 2 which I currently use). Apparently the only way for me to to get one of these new routers is to switch my broadband to EE.  This I don't mind as I believe it is BT's aim to eventually switch existing broadband customers over to EE to split the residential market and business market between the two.  Might as well do it now instead of later. However, having requested a switch of my existing BT broadband contract to EE, I have now been informed that since I have a Battery Backup Unit connected to the router, the unit is incompatible with the new Wifi 7 Router which would otherwise have been supplied to complete the changeover. So in theory, I cant switch my service to EE unless I either wait until the BBU is compatible (not holding my breath) or I switch to EE without the use of any  battery backup. Since this unit simply supplies a no-break power supply to the router, I cant see where the incompatibility exists, unless the router power supply is different, or the power connector plug is different. Apparently a one-for-one swap of BT Home Hub 2 with the Wifi7 Smart Hub wont work either. Anyone else experienced similar problems, as it seems crazy that EE cant supply either their own or BT's BBUs which I would consider an integral part of any home broadband system.

Just to close off this chat, I have had a conversation with other BT/EE customer service people who still maintain that as I have a Battery Backup Unit connected to my existing BT Router, the device is considered incompatible with the EE Wifi6 and 7 smart hubs (as supplied for the full fibre  broadband). Whether or not the BBU  will work with these routers (and personally I'm almost certain they will), appears to make no difference, as the devices are officially on my equipment inventory even if I unplug the things and therefore BT will not switch my service.

So be warned - if you are considering the switch from your BT Full FIbre Broadband  to a like-for-like broadband from EE  (which is the eventual aim) and you are using a BT Battery Back Up device, you may not be eligible for the transfer.

@oldbuffer Going to disagree with the Wi-Fi 6 as just completed the BBU on a Smarthub+ Model SH32B and the ONT back in November (So she say's) all and Both off the units supplied FOC by EE after a FF install because of a 5G Mobile mast issue created by EE. Back up at sister's on Sunday so will take pictures of all, even if she has not got the shelf up for them yet!

The issue as I see it, is that the EE superhuman 7 plus has replaced the power barrel socket with a USB c style socket. So the incompatibility they are taking about is imply down to that. EE continuously use old stock photographs which do not match descriptions, nor does it inspire confidence. BT or EE the ONT is not  problem. But your Y splitter must have  a barrel for the ONT and a USB c connector to power the latest  EE superhuman 7 plus. Search as I may by Google AI or anywhere on EE there appears NO PICTURE of this splitter, although I believe it is black not white. Either way they are sending me their BB and correct Y connecter and I hope it's the right one!

@Yt081039 The EE Smart Hub 7 Plus has never ever been included in the BBU setup, and as yet the power to the unit has not been determined as to what type adapter is in use or what the power to it is, all the others operate off a 12V D.C centre positive barrel connector, so have a look at your actual power adapter that is supplied with your current 7+ and see if there is any indication on the adapter itself.

Maybe they now have a suitable cable for it but it is not on the EE site as yet. Nor is the adapter power as 12V is not a standard for PPS or AVS in USB-C power supplies if special one in use.

Does look like it is a 12v D.C. power supply info below.
