2 week review of EE 1.6gbs

Having been on the new 1.6gb/s service now for 2 weeks, and here are my views,

i have the EE new smart router plus and 3 extenders, first off i know the EE smart hub plus only has 1gb LAN ports, speeds have been ok and stable WIFI rangers from about 650-820  what is not bad, i m running with them hardwired with a lan to them, i know WiFi 6 max speeds are 1200 but rarely get them in the real world

this package feels like it been rushed out, my reason for saying this are,  openreach engineers laptops have 1gb Ethernet ports so they are unable to check speeds from ONT or any other Speedtest at your home if you are on the 1.6gbs package

the EE router having only 1gb LAN, also it comes with a cat 5e cable, this cat of cable does up to 1gb, so if you are on 1.6gb/s you will need to get a new Ethernet lead to connected the smart hub plus to the ONT

all the WiFi features like work and game mode and WiFi controls dont work, it say page not found, i have heard that the WiFi enhanced feature has been turn off so the team can look at it and fix it as it affecting a lot of users and should be back after a month, i am unable to check speed via the router page this time it asking for me to make an EE account

speeds and connection has been stable and good, but i did have a lot of issues getting the service

i know of people who have bought a 3rd party router so they can get full access to the raw 1.6gbs speeds, and they are having no issues on speeds as router has 2.5gb LAN on them unlike the EE smart hub plus

i have bought a usbc to 2.5gb Ethernet adapter so i can test the raw speeds at the ONT, plus if openreach do need to test speeds at my home they will be able too

so in short i hope you can see why i think this package has been rushed out from the fact openreach dont have the kit to test speeds at the customer home, to all the issues with the new smart hub plus

@iJason You mentioned Windows 10, WiFi 7 last i checked was not supported in anything earlier then Windows 11 24H2 so youi may just be getting really good WiFi 6E speeds. In your Connected wifi properties what channel and link speed are you getting?

@iJason - I very much doubt everybody needs a fresh Windows install. I transitioned to 6GHz/Wi-Fi 7 on a desktop machine that was formerly running Windows 10 and went through inlife upgrade to Windows 11; I didn't have to reinstall anything.

@cliffy37 - I have some experience with Wi-Fi 7 on earlier Windows 11 builds. A Wi-Fi 7 NIC did 'work' and showed Wi-Fi 7'esque link speeds etc. but it behaved very oddly until the 24H2 update came along, so I agree that it should be seen a requisite.

@bobpullen I think you can definately get faster spped with WiFi 7 on W10 as you and @iJason but is flakwy as you pointed out. Can you remember if your system showed Link speed or Link Aggreegation speed? I think thing like MLO is missing from anything other then W11 which as you probably know allows the WIFi to use multiple channels and then see an aggreegated speed. Tempted to re install w10 and dual boot to do some testing

@cliffy37 - it said 'Aggregated Link Speed' however word of warning that I would advise against likening that to the presence of MLO. It says the same thing regardless as to whether or not the access point has MLO enabled (confirmed on 24H2 aswell).

Nothing me too, I got the text same time as you but I then got email Friday saying it been dispatched but the bit where they insert the tracking info was blank. So assuming it was sent Friday on 48hr service should hopefully arrive by tomorrow or Wednesday if not ill be giving them a call.

On the tracking they give you when is it expected to arrive and what day was it dispatched?

Received my Hub Pro today after receiving a dispatched email and text on Friday. Slightly confused why they are also asking me to return said Pro back or I will charged...

Was on the phone with EE today regarding my SIM only contract and the agent confirmed it’s an error in the automated email.

quickly discovered the new Hub Pro does not support 10mb link to my Tado device so having to put a switch in between. Apart from that seeing max speeds and good latency single digit latency.
