2 week review of EE 1.6gbs

Having been on the new 1.6gb/s service now for 2 weeks, and here are my views,

i have the EE new smart router plus and 3 extenders, first off i know the EE smart hub plus only has 1gb LAN ports, speeds have been ok and stable WIFI rangers from about 650-820  what is not bad, i m running with them hardwired with a lan to them, i know WiFi 6 max speeds are 1200 but rarely get them in the real world

this package feels like it been rushed out, my reason for saying this are,  openreach engineers laptops have 1gb Ethernet ports so they are unable to check speeds from ONT or any other Speedtest at your home if you are on the 1.6gbs package

the EE router having only 1gb LAN, also it comes with a cat 5e cable, this cat of cable does up to 1gb, so if you are on 1.6gb/s you will need to get a new Ethernet lead to connected the smart hub plus to the ONT

all the WiFi features like work and game mode and WiFi controls dont work, it say page not found, i have heard that the WiFi enhanced feature has been turn off so the team can look at it and fix it as it affecting a lot of users and should be back after a month, i am unable to check speed via the router page this time it asking for me to make an EE account

speeds and connection has been stable and good, but i did have a lot of issues getting the service

i know of people who have bought a 3rd party router so they can get full access to the raw 1.6gbs speeds, and they are having no issues on speeds as router has 2.5gb LAN on them unlike the EE smart hub plus

i have bought a usbc to 2.5gb Ethernet adapter so i can test the raw speeds at the ONT, plus if openreach do need to test speeds at my home they will be able too

so in short i hope you can see why i think this package has been rushed out from the fact openreach dont have the kit to test speeds at the customer home, to all the issues with the new smart hub plus

From what ext gen said after the intrested party form,it passed on to a team what rebuild the account with the pro router on it, once all that is done they are sent out so it sounds like it done 1  account at a time

still waiting here I think parcel Royal Mail is around 3ish usually here

All wireless - we can't really run any wires from the router and ONT because of the placement of the ONT.

The OR installer was insistent he could only place the ONT by the back door, in a really awkward place with no power which was nice of him. 🙄

It's a shame they couldn't rebuild it without the CPI + 3.9% increase from last year 🫣

Floor people are going soon so I can fire up my server and see how the pro performs locally.

The company I bought my Orbi 973 from have also agreed that they'll take back the mesh (because I raised the return already) so that'll be a nice bonus when they refund me.

So it is fair to say EE are beyond rubbish. UK's largets communications provide but cannot communicate correct info for toffee. Just phoned Next Gen team, they agve no idea what is going on. Apparently they set up a dummy run, some on that dummy run got the texts followed by the emails follwed by the equipment, some went wrong adn only got the texts, guess which one i was. They have no idea where i am in the queue or when mine will actually ship, vaguie response i got was giove it until Tuesday next week. Pathetic

I’m getting another internet line installed of 2gbps up and down from an altnet called brsk for £55 a month, with no mid contract price increases. So will probably have the EE as a redundancy line

Ok I spend last 30mins setting up router and EE App funny thing the pictures was of the plus in the setting up

took me 10 mins to find where to plug the main power into it

so far no disconnections, so it looking like the 2 plus routers have some kind of issues as so far with pro lan fight is doing as expected, I give it an hour before I confirm the issues resolved

I suspect it's a display issue. Do you have a capable device to run a speedtest from whilst on top of the extender? That would confirm it i.e. if it returns a result north of 1Gbps.

Good idea,thanks

i think I can say my connection issue is no more since using the pro, so it was 2 bad plus routers
