how to i transfer whatsapp chat from iphone xr to iphone12

I received my new iphone 12 on friday i did the transfer over to new phone but when i went into whats app it told me not connected to icloud and go to icloud drive - i did that but icloud drive option is cancel or upgrade and it wont let me select upgrade.

Any advice???

@bprice  On your old device make sure you have backed up your what’s app chats via the whats app backup feature. It’s under settings/chat.

Thanks Chris, tried that, but it wouldnt let me back up. Says need to switch on icloud drive, but when i go onto icloud drive it says cancel or upgrade - but wont let me select upgrade

Are you able to use WhatsApp on your iPhone 12?

Are you connected to WiFi on your iPhone XR when you turn on iCloud Drive?

I can’t do restore onto iPhone 12 so can’t access WhatsApp at all until I sort it on XR. I’m on WiFi when I try to go to iCloud Drive but no luck

Have you tried restarting your iPhone?

Did you sign into your Apple ID before backing up?

Yes I have restarted both iPhone 12 and iPhone XR its the icloud drive im assuming is the problem – it just wont let me select it.
And im signed in to icloud on both phones
