Data used up even though phone not used

I bought a smartphone as we now have an electric vehicle and you need a smartphone at some of the charging points especially on the motorway. You may not believe this but using it for the electric vehicle is the only thing I use it for - not texting, phoniing, selfies, games, films - nothing else. So I am very concerned that, after an initial outlay of £20 which I thought would buy enough data to last me for months, I have had to top the PAYG up twice by buying a pack for £7.50 each time and each time the data has vanished before I have used it at a charging point.

I understand that a new phone comes with lots of pre-loaded apps all of which use up data so I have turned them off or uninstalled what I could or stopped data being used in the background but still the data disappears. And because I can't log on to My EE app because I don't have any data, I can't see where the data is going! Vicious circle. If I can't rely on the phone having data available when I need to charge the car, I will be stranded. I am sending this from my laptop which uses a limited mobile broadband gadget so don't want to allow the smartphone to connect using that as it may use up all my broadband data as well. Any thoughts other than to get an unlimited data SIM - too expensive for the small amount of use - or change provider!

EE Packs only last for a max. of 30 days. If you don't use your data during that time, you'll have none left until you buy another pack.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

Thanks for your reply. One of the times the data disappeared in 5 days from being bought to not bring there anymore! I was actually about to charge the car at a services and was nearly through the start process when I was suddenly out of data and so couldn't continue. Luckily I had enough power to get home! And on that occasion I had made sure I bought the data pack only a few days before so that I should have had more than enough data. And it still vanished.

It may be worth speaking to our Mobile Care team to check your pack usage and find out what's happening.
