Data gifting anomaly

Good morning,

Since joining EE in 2020 and adding two more SIMs to my « family » I’ve noticed the following conundrum.

My rollover date is the second of each month. If I gift myself data at one minute past midnight I can enjoy 100GB+ to use and to share. If I have the misfortune to be already asleep and don’t perform this task until the morning, I typically have lost 10GB somehow and have only 90-93GB to add to my second account.

Not only that, the two SIMs that need to have data gifted to them have only 250mb each, so there is the real risk that post-lockdown, they could run up quite a bill before I get round to gifting the data to them.

Why the loss of 10GB during the night ? Am I really expected not to go asleep until after midnight to maximise my potential and avoid the risk of unwanted charges ? How can this situation be avoided apart from setting an alarm to wake me in the middle of the night ? It seems grossly unreasonable and unjustifiable.

Oh, I realise that, I’m not arguing with you and appreciate your insight.

But, I live alone in a small house - the vast majority of devices connected during the night are cameras, Echo peripherals, TVs and media sticks. I know how little data these are using. So, am left wondering where ten gigs is going when traffic is at a near-standstill.

As I’ve said in another post above, it really doesn’t matter very much, am just curious as to why this began about three months ago, when it wasn’t the case in the early days. It’s very odd. It’s also somewhat irritating as it puts the onus on the customer to a) stay awake b) unplug the router or turn off the device with the SIM in it (and indeed remember to do this before going to bed - and possibly negating all alarms).

In future, I’ll use my Irish hotspot from the evening on the first until the second, and gift the data as soon I am awake once more.

Would be great if data rolled over during daylight hours !
