5G upgrade

I’ve just upgraded to a 5G contract and currently have an esim in my iPhone 12 Pro Max. When I upgraded I was told I’d need a new SIM which they’ve sent out. Surely the esim is 5G capable? I’m not going to have to put the new SIM in then pay to transfer back to esim so I can do dual SIM again am I?

All SIMs are 5G-capable. It's the plan that gives you 5G or not.

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

As @XRaySpeX says it's the Plan and not the SIM that determines your 5G connectivity, but with an eSim you may have to reload the eSim details from your Account again to the Device after your Plan has been upgraded to 5G.

I know this is the procedure for some Samsung and some Google Pixel.devices.
