iPhone Duo - Upgrade Anytime

Hi,

Has anyone had any issues with upgrading this year? I have a 24 month contract for my iPhone 17 Pro Max, I upgraded today to the iPhone Duo, followed the steps to place the order, trade in and upgrade,  and got the confirmation email. However, because I have to hand my phone back, due to upgrading early, the trade in option is blank on my order and despite getting an XKO order number, the EE guide states there’s an error with my order.

My email came in at 13:03, I ordered early so I don’t have delays and my email states I’ll get this on launch day. My concern is, EE guides are stating I should cancel and re-order, but this will now be a date as early as next month or NEXT YEAR?!?

Has anyone else ever had the

We need to confirm some details.

and have you still received your orders without cancelling?

Not good at all. Did they mention why your order was cancelled? You should put a complaint in and still order your iPhone Duo, you never know, you might get it sooner. They always give a later expected delivery date as a worse case scenario. I would have been on the same situation as you, if I hadn’t immediately phoned EE to place the order again. I am sorry they cancelled your initial order, next time you should order it via telephone, EE website is full of bugs.

I’m currently in a 3 hour long chat and just got through to their executive complaints team.

How did you get on with EE? iPhone Duo deliveries might speed up in the very near future, if the quality issues improve.

I remember someone a few years ago on the forum telling us that when the batch gets delivered in Ireland - Apple gets the biggest share, then EE, then the other carriers

Since my last post, I found that the order status does still show for my order but only sometimes. I think people are probably hammering that server trying to figure out if their order is still progressing, just like me, and it’s overloading the server.

Hi all,

Following up on my earlier posts regarding orders getting flagged the day after launch pre-orders. After an exhaustive 4.5-hour escalation today through frontline sales, a team manager, and finally Executive Complaints (Darlington), here is the exact low-level operational breakdown of what is actually happening behind the scenes so others can avoid losing their queue position.

1. The Root Cause: Catalog & Provisioning Mismatch

• The Glitch: There is an API/catalog sync failure between the customer-facing frontend web portal and EE’s internal backend provisioning engine.

• The Mechanism: The frontend successfully published and permitted the selection of the Unlimited Full Works Plus for iPhone plan (e.g. £38/mo with EE One multi-product discount) alongside Flex Pay for the new devices at launch (13:00). Checkout was completed, agreements signed, and initial pre-order confirmation references issued.

• The Failure: When the order hit the backend fulfillment/order-management layer, the internal provisioning engine failed to validate the SKU/tariff code against the handset device profile. To frontline agent systems, this throws a generic error showing the price plan as "invalid" or "not available with this device."

2. The Operational Flaw: Frontline "Re-Keying" Trap

• The automated trigger: The system generates an automated SMS: "We're sorry, there's an issue with your recent order... contact us... to get your order back on track."

• What frontline agents try to do: Standard sales and digital guides cannot manually edit or patch lines on an in-flight order. Their standard workflow script is to treat the original order as "cancelled/dead" and offer to "sort it" by re-keying a brand-new order from scratch.

• The consequence: Do not let them re-key it. A re-keyed order generates a completely new order ID with a current timestamp. In pre-order logistics, device allocation is tied to order validation timestamps. Re-keying immediately dumps you from the 13:00 launch allocation right to the very back of the queue (which is currently quoting dispatch times in excess of 28 days / well into next year).

3. What Was Formally Confirmed by Executive Complaints

After escalating past the frontline team and team managers to Executive Complaints, they contacted the Digital Sales back-office operations team who confirmed:

• The deal was valid online, but the backend systems failed to present the plan properly to the processing guides.

• This is a known internal configuration issue affecting multiple orders placed on specific tariffs.

• The orders affected by this catalog error are on hold, not hard-deleted.

• The back-office technical teams are working on a fix to correct the plan availability on their side so the held orders can be processed.

4. Advice for Anyone in the Same Boat

• Do NOT accept a frontline re-order: If an agent says "I just need to place a new order for you," stop them immediately.

• Insist the order remains on hold: Request explicitly that your existing order reference is marked "ON HOLD pending back-office Digital Sales tariff resolution" and not cancelled.

• Protect your timestamp: Ask the agent/manager to record on your file that you require your original launch-day pre-order submission timestamp preserved for stock allocation once the technical fix is deployed.

• Get an Executive Complaint reference: If frontline guides push back, open a formal complaint and escalate.

Will update once the back-office team pushes the backend fix early next week

Great update! So if that is true- I had order email at 13:42 yesterday saying we’ve got your order but I didn’t get order confirmed until 16:00 today- over 24 hours later. Does that mean I am still one of the first to get or will be back of the queue? I didn’t ask them to clear down, they said I didn’t even have an order valid this morning lol!

I greatly appreciate the details you managed to obtain. I am actually quite surprised they offered this level of transparency!

However I an unsure what to do

1) I placed an online order which clearly stated arriving launch day. Order starting xko

2) when it didn’t track after 30 minutes I called in just to check it was placed correctly. They said it had failed and put a new order in the system that only had numbers and no ETA.. This was shortly after 2pm

3) I am one of a few people who then received a text about an unviewable device agreement in the early hours of Saturday morning

4) if I try and track my original order it now says an unknown error occurred

Questions

1) Am I now at risk of two orders trying to go through at the same time causing all sorts of unknown mayhem?

2) Although my second order was only a bit over an hour later, I may have lost my launch day position. Can this be resolved in any way?

3) Does notification of a device agreement overnight indicate stock allocated or this is just a red herring ?

minor note:

I also do wonder if they are effectively going to start replaying all the transactions through the system how they will undo all the successfully placed orders subsequently in order to reinstate the stock allocation based on time stamp!

Thank you again for the detail.

regarding tracking your order, oddly enough if you track it through the EE app it works

I’ve tried using the app to track my iPhone Duo order and nothing come up yet. Order and everything confirmed by EE though.
