You need to have signed up for Extra Box if you want to use 2 boxes on your account, but you can swap the supplied non-recording version for an EE TV Box Pro that you have obtained elsewhere.

Caveats:

  • EE TV hardware is supposed to be returned at the end of a contract and isn’t anyone’s to sell
  • EE could block the box at any time from working (they haven’t so far)
  • If you try and add more than 1 box to your broadband without setting up Extra Box, it will ask you if it is the “main box” as there are “too many boxes on your broadband”
  • If you say yes, the first box will stop working (hence why you need Extra Box)
  • The maximum number of boxes you can have is 3, no matter how fast your broadband is

I am usefully informed that if you set a recording on a main box, and then switch away from it to another box as main, the recording will nevertheless be made.

You just won’t be able to watch it unless you switch that box back to being main again 😛

Just to add to the thread as no-one has yet mentioned this: EETV is currently NOT available on Full Fibre 1.6Gb Busiest Home Bundle or Made For Gamers packages.

Well, that is important information which makes any potential solutions irrelevant! 🤣
