So I have the apple 4k with Apple TV as my main box and the mini as my second box.
Really loving the experience on the Apple TV. Was a a bit disappointed to begin with when I realised I couldn’t record but being able to reason up to an hour even when just joining the channel is awesome and then using the catch up apps for everything else just works great.
The journey on the min box to be honest sucks unless I am missing something. If you are watching something on ITV in your main room and then you move to your mini room (going to bed) you can’t rewind on the mini if you just join the channel. Even worse the ITV app on the mini has no live option. If it did you can start watching there and rewind a bit but as I say it does not have live. This makes the experience in the mini frustrating.
iI have another Apple TV, bit the latest 3rd gen it’s a 2nd gen. So decided to install the EE app on there and try using that instead of the mini but unfortunately the app is not the same as on the Apple TV provided by EE, I am not sure why this is. It does not have all the channels, for example 1 to 5 are missing in the guide. The whole ui seems different.
I am wondering if I can have a second Apple TV 4K from apple instead of the mini?

@Whittin1706 The EE Apple TV is exclusive to EE and it’s registered to receive EE TV which you will not get on a standard Apple TV. Should you purchase an EE Apple TV from elsewhere ( cough eBay ) you can use that to have the same EE TV experience.

Also, I don’t get why the app is different on my older Apple TV. I can not think of a reason why EE would do this?

No, you can’t have a second EE Apple TV from EE. Though you can ‘cough up’ for one via the route @Chris_B suggests.
The app is different on your older Apple TV not because it is older but because the EE Apple TV is registered, and you other one isn’t and can’t be, and so simply can’t do everything that the app can do on a registered Apple TV.
This is again a requirement from the broadcasters, that their channels can only go out under strict EE TV control, and registration of the Apple TV box is how this is accomplished,
Oh, and being able to rewind a channel that you have only just selected is a feature of how EE provide the channels on the Apple TV box, where they have complete control,of the app on the Apple box, versus the Box Mini, which is limited by the code that YouView provide, as it’s a YouView zapper box under the skin.

EE TV Apple TV devices are only ever provided as part of a subscription, and remain the property of EE at all times - any sold online are considered stolen goods and will be deactivated if discovered.

Thanks for this. Can I get another from EE? And use one for main and one for secondary. I would prefer this. Does it work technically?

The option to take a second Apple TV is being discussed as a possible future product enhancement (2025 at the earliest), but it's not currently possible. We need to get all our ordering systems upgraded to handle the scenarios we have already, before we think about adding more.

@DarrenDev Im not sure if you can answer this,
If there are EE Apple TVs on for sale on eBay (there is ) which I know remain the property of EE why hasn’t someone from EE made contact with eBay to have these removed. Your statement of “any sold online are considered stolen goods and will be deactivated if discovered”. Is grounds to have them removed from sale. They don’t belong to the sellers to sell and anyone purchasing one is basically then purchasing stolen items.
