Inclusive HD with EE TV sport packages

If you’re an EE TV customer with EE Broadband, you can now get HD included as part of our sports channels packages. This would have previously been charged an extra £6 for the HD addon.
For existing customers, you’ll need to flex to the new version of your package to get this benefit. If you’re on a discounted offer, you may be better off staying with the current set up until your discount period ends.

What will I get?

  • Customers on our Sport package will get all TNT Sports channels in HD. As well as TNT Sports Ultimate in UHD where they have enough broadband speed. This also applies when you take TNT Sports as an add-on
  • Customers on our Big Sport package will also get NOW Boost, allowing them to watch all 12 Sky Sports channels in HD, as well as watch two streams simultaneously

What happens to my existing HD add-on?

  • When you flex to the new version of Sport/Big Sport where HD is included, we’ll remove the £6 add-on from your account

Can I go back to my old package without HD?

  • All our TV packages that include TNT Sports or Sky Sports come with HD when you have EE Broadband. It’s not possible to move back to your old deal or remove HD

I have EE TV with BT Broadband. How can I get HD included in my package?

  • You’ll need to move your broadband to EE, and select an EE TV package where HD is included (Sport, Big Sport or Full Works)

This is geekspeak for you will have to ring EE and ask to be moved from ‘Sports without HD’ to ‘Sports with HD’ at no cost to you.

However, if you currently have the HD add-on, it won’t just suddenly become free, you too have to phone up and flex to the new Sports version with free HD, and only then will it stop the £6/mo charge, which dies when the old version is flexed away from.

And no, I don’t understand either why they can’t just do whatever is needed automatically for everyone affected 😢

Hi @Smith861

You'd have to flex to a new version of your tariff. If you have a chat with our Customer Care team, they'll be able to check what options are available to you, and whether it would be worth it.

Chris

But there is a cost, I pay £20 for Sport the new pack is £23 so effectively it's a £3 charge for so called free HD, I'll stick with actual free via Discovery+ and keep at £20 price.

This is a complete stitch up to force customers to lose their discount and switch to the new Big Sports package if they want HD.

Having only just moved to EE, I tried to add HD to my Big Sports package. Despite the HD option still  showing as available for me in the ee app, it was not possible to complete the transaction to add HD. I called up only to be told that I was on an obsolete plan (it had only started 2 days prior to my call!) and that HD was no longer available as an option. If I wanted HD I would have to move to the new Big Sports plan and lose the £10 tv discount I had signed up for.

Completely unacceptable and sharp practice.

@paulsl

@James_B did say “If you’re on a discounted offer, you may be better off staying with the current set up until your discount period ends.”

But he perhaps didn’t anticipate your scenario, where instead of getting HD free, or even being able to pay £6 for it, you effectively have to pay £10 to get it.

But call 150 again, and ask to speak to the Value Team. Retentions (for that’s who they are really) have more leeway than other departments, and may be able to flex you onto the new plan without you losing the discount you have only enjoyed for a scant two days,

Can you please advise if I am eligible for this as I am unsure and have received conflicting advice from EE Guides. I have the Big Sport package which was SD only when I moved to EE in October 2024. The picture quality was awful in SD so I added the HD add-on at £6 per month to ensure a watchable picture. I have been advised that I will have to continue to pay the £6 per month however if I joined today it would be automatically included as part of the package? This seems a little unfair so I'd be grateful for some clarification on what it is I need to do?

Thanks in advance.

@CustardCreams you'll need to flex to the new sports package of your preference by giving EE a call. In theory you should be able to do this within the EE app online, but I am not sure if this is possible yet.

As I understand it, there will be a small increase based on the old SD packages but it wouldn't be as much as having the old package and adding the £6 add on.

Thanks weerab2024

It seems the Big Sport package I have currently, with the £6 p/month add on, is cheaper than the Big Sport package with HD inclusive advertised at £48 p/month on the offers page of the website.

If I have this correct it makes no sense for me to flex then at all. Have I worked that out correctly? Apologies, it is very confusing indeed.

@CustardCreams

Yes indeed. The announcement of the revised plan with ‘free HD’ does say that customers on a discounted current plan, even after adding the £6 for HD, may still find that it works out cheaper, and so elect to stay on it.

You could try asking the Value Team if they would consider porting your current discount to the new plan.
