Agreed.
I once had a Samsung that would begin playing its ads (not just in a banner across the screen, actually playing them full screen) when you first switched it on! The only way to stop it was to remove their channels from the list.

Diabolical. But navigating apps and sources was better than the WebOS mishmash. It insists on describing my Panasonic UB820 4k disc player as a DVD Player.

Oh, the embarrassment 🤦🏼‍♂️

I like WebOS very much. The trick is mastering the use of the little mouse button on the magic remote.

And I like that you never have to back out of anything on WebOS, because it has no concept of nested menus, you just move right along to the next thing.

And I like the way the magic remote works, and moulds itself to be a remote for pretty much every other device you can plug into the TV (excepting the Roku StreamingStick+, which it thinks it can control, but can’t).

The occasional misstep, like calling your UHD player a DVD, Is the price of WebOS trying to anticipate your needs. But it’s fixable; go into the Home Hub, click the three vertical dots top right, choose Edit Inputs, and you should be able to give your UHD player the title it deserves 😛

Given that, what do you still not like about WebOS?

@Midnight_Voice  The point and shoot of the remote being out of alignment with the dot on the screen until you aim of the TV screen to bring it back to alignment.

“I like WebOS very much. The trick is mastering the use of the little mouse button on the magic remote.”

Ah, the fun we have with the magic remote. “Oh gone too far again 🤬”

And that’s the least of it.

Last TV we had,  a Samsung (and I thought the LG would be an improvement, and in the ways important to me, it is) had a Home button listing all sources and apps in 1 strip. Sources could be renamed.

On LG/WebOS, apps are separated from sources.

“…the magic remote…moulds itself to be a remote for pretty much every other device you can plug into the TV…”

I don’t like universal control, either via learning remotes or via auto HDMI switching. In my experience it can produce undesirable results. I’m old school in this. I prefer stuff to do what I want, not what it thinks I want.

You think I haven’t tried that? I’ve tried it a dozen times. There are a couple of routes to get to the edit option. Each gives the same response; “there are no inputs to edit”.

To be fair, at the start it did list a “Panasonic BD player” - or something similar -  closer to what it actually is anyway. Later in it suddenly decided it was an unbranded DVD player. I expect that if I find a way to get it to “forget” this source, then re-add it as if it’s a new, first time, HDMI connection, it might correct itself. But I prefer to come on here and moan 😂

EE TV box, and Apple TV, are correctly named.

And to be extra fair, my sources aren’t connected directly to the TV. Standard practice in AV/hifi circles is to run all inputs to a 4k pass through AV amp then HDMI out to the TV via eARC (HDMI 2 on the LG). It maximises the capabilities of the kit and saves on cabling.

So they’re all listed on the 1 HDMI input (eARC on 2) with 1,3, and 4 blank. I *could* connect the sources direct, but the audio return channel back down to the amp is Dolby Digital only, negating my 7.1 set up. If my sources ea had 2 HDMI outputs, I could feed both TV and AVR with the original, high quality, video and audio feeds. But only my Panasonic has 2 outputs. So, 🤷🏼

“Given that, what do you still not like about WebOS”

All the above 😉

As I’ve said, I prefer the PQ and cable management with the C3.

WebOS, not so much. What can I say. First world problems etc.

Nooooo!

I did a detailed, lengthy response, thought I’d posted it, but it’s not there.

I thought the board auto-saved posts?

@Minkey1

You need to go back to the exact posting that you replied to, and Reply again.

You should then be asked (time will obviously vary)

“You have autosaved content from 10:28 PM.

 Load or Discard”

This won’t work if you accidentally pressed Cancel instead of Reply, where an ‘Are you sure?’ would be a welcome addition to that dialogue 😢

Another option may be to click your avatar top right, select Profile, and scroll down to Drafts, see if it’s there, and resuscitate it if so.

I tried that. Nothing. I’ve obviously pressed cancel or done something else daft.

Anyhoo. Boiled down to:

1. WebOS splits apps and sources. My previous, otherwise inferior, TV had them all together in 1 row.

2. This is what I see in Home Hub:

IMG_3598.jpeg

3. EETV and Apple TV are correctly named. The Panasonic isn’t.

4. As you'll note, all 3 sources show as HDMI2 - LGs nominated eARC socket.

5. This follows normal AV/hifi practice. Each source connects to the amp and passes 4k/HDR video through it to the TV, leaving the amp free to handle multi channel audio up to Atmos.

6. I *could* connect each source direct to the TV. Presumably that would help the recognition of brand and type of each source, and perhaps editing. The problem there is that the audio being returned to the amp is Dolby Digital, negating the audio capabilities of the Denon. If each source had 2 HDMI outputs, split audio and video, I could use each HDMI socket on the TV, and still pass multi channel audio direct to the amp. But only the Panasonic has 2 outputs.

7. Despite the potential for errors with everything being on HDMI2 as far as the TV is concerned, the LG is nevertheless clever enough to correctly label the EE and Apple boxes, just not the Panasonic.

8. I’ve tried a dozen times to edit inputs, and via several routes - with the same result. “No inputs are available to edit”.

This is essentially what I posted before.

First world problems eh 🤦🏼‍♂️

@Chris_B @Minkey1

So you have to aim off the screen to get the blob (as we call it) back in sync? Yes, that would be really annoying 😢

But I have literally never experienced this, on either my 65” 2020 LG GX or my 48” 2022 LG C2, and nor has my wife.

So I wonder what I’m accidentally doing right?

What models are you getting this on? Any suggestions as to how I might provoke the issue?
