Porting Question

I got this email from EE yesterday at 9am after requesting my old number moves to their new sim. I have that sim. I am struggling to understand the 2 pieces of contradictory information.

"On the day you will get two text messages:

  1. Firstly, we'll let you know the transfer has begun. When you get this message, please insert your new SIM.
  2. You'll get a second message confirming the transfer has happened."

however I am now reading on the forum that you need to insert the new EE sim straight away to start the porting operation.

I have kept my old sim (from another provider) as the email stated, is this wrong?. Its now nearly 2 working days after that initial email and i've heard nothing - do I need to put the EE sim in and ignore what the email said?

Thanks in advance

Common understanding on this forum, is that the PAC is submitted when your temporary number is first activated - which is done by inserting your new SIM into a phone and connecting to EE's network.

The port-in should be the working day after that is done, assuming it's before approx 4pm on a working weekday. Add an extra working day otherwise.

I would interpret your two quotes as referring to a porting-date being set, port being started on-the-day, and port being completed.

Hi, thanks for responding, by the sounds of it I definitely have  to put the EE sim in now and take the incumbent sim out - and just wait. The email from EE (to me) suggested I keep my old sim in (three) and wait until they tell me to put the EE sim in. Oh well, got confused - but thanks for the help!

No, you follow what it says. It tells you to "insert your new SIM". That means the new 1 you got from EE. While you've got your old SIM (from another provider) in the port to EE cannot possibly start.

Thats what I thought, but the line:

"

  1. Firstly, we'll let you know the transfer has begun. When you get this message, please insert your new SIM.

suggests do nothing until they let me know the transfer is starting - as far as I can see I have had no message from EE telling me the process has started, even though the email was from 9am yesterday.

OIC! I didn't realise you hadn't already received the 1st promised text.

Anyway, the rule is that porting can only start once you have inserted your EE SIM & connected to the network.
