New PAYG Sim not working

Bought a new sim from a shop popped it into my phone and the mobile number was showing but could not get onto the app - tried to register but no passcodes. Went online and topped up with £5 just in case it never works but still nothing - app says to wait for a code but I never get one

@DrBobF : You don't need to register with the app or your online EE a/c just to use a PAYG SIM.

What does texting AL to 150 from your no. fully report verbatim (it is free)?
