Month wait before port?

So I bought a monthly PAYG EE SIM and activated it on Sunday 4/10. I also gave my PAC when I ordered it so expect the port to be automatic. However I received a text from EE saying:

"Hi from EE. We'll transfer your number by 6pm on 02/11. Thanks"

Now I timed this transfer so I could cancel my old monthly SIM before it renews but unless it transfers today I will end up paying for another month unnecessarily. Why is my port being delayed? Is this normal? I was expecting it to be within a working day or two of activating my SIM.

@chocky909   It should port today if you gave the pac on Sunday.   I would call customer support tomorrow if it hasn’t ported by the end of play today.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 07953 966 150 from any other phone.

No, you won't! You'll only pay up to when your no. ports which should be by end of today as your other contract will be auto cancelled when it ports out.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Home Broadband & Home Phone or Option 2 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

Well that was the plan. If it ports today that's great but the main thing I was confused about was the text message. Is that normal to give a date a whole month into the future?

Yes, to give some leeway for the delivery of the SIM & to allow time for you to activate it as that is the trigger for porting to start.

Hmm, I was convinced the text was sent in response to me activating the SIM but I could be wrong about that. It was a bit confusing.

Anyway, the port seems to have happened today. I only just realised it though as my phone is still identifying the new EE SIM with it's original number in the settings despite resetting the phone numerous times and even physically removing and replacing the SIM but I have tested the phone and it is now using my ported number. My EE account also shows the ported number so everything seems sorted now.

I have tried a few suggestions like resetting my network settings and clearing caches but SIM still reads in settings as original number. I'm guessing it won't matter in the grand scheme of things?

Thanks for all the replies.

Yes, sometimes the phone still retains the SIM's original no. but as long as calls & texts go back & forth from the ported no. you can just ignore it. Text NUMBER to 150 to check.
