Thinking about another line but worried about roaming

So I've been with EE since time began. If I order an additional line will I still benefit from no roaming additional charges as I do with my current contract line?  Also is it possible to get the additional line as an e-sim as I'm abroad now for a while but have a spare handset

The status of roaming charges is not set on an account level, but on a per-line basis.

This means you would need to choose a plan for the additional line which includes no-charge roaming in the destinations that you are going to use it.

For plans that include no-charge EU Roaming, this is Unlimited Essentials Plus and Unlimited All Rounder.

Unlimited Full Works plans include no-charge EU Roaming + no-charge ROW Zone 1 Roaming.

The countries in each Zone can be found here: ee.co.uk/roamingrefresh

Roaming usage is subject to a fair usage policy of 50GB of data per billing month on each line.

It may not be possible to set this up while abroad, as activation will need to take place on EE's network in the UK and the roaming capability would need to be enabled on this line by texting ROAMING to 150 before leaving the UK.

I'd go further and suggest that activation of a new SIM is almost certainly not possible outside the UK. Whether that's "e" or "p" is immaterial.

In theory, the network-level data-setup can be done without the SIM being connected, allowing the SIM to connect and complete the process. In practice, where a roaming network is involved, there's an additional variable which is often "too much" and thus UK activation is often required.
