Why am I being charged for a WiFi enabled WhatsApp call?

I called an Australian landline using Wifi enabled WhatsApp,I now find that in being charged for this call by EE.

why is this?

@kooky   I highly recommend you read THIS  

 

and just to add a landline is not connected to the internet so you got charged accordingly.    The calls should be  what’s app to what’s app.

This just happened to me from Uk to Canada. £168!

Im shocked to the core!

Mine was to a Canadian cell phone but apparently WhatsApp switches to standard mobile call if your WiFi signal is poor.

WhatsApp "calls" are not setup or carried over EE's network as voice calls and accordingly cannot be charged as such.

 

The only way that a voice call appears on your EE bill is that it was dialled as a voice call, which is not how calling apps such as WhatsApp or Messenger work.

 

Data usage & voice calls are charged in a fundamentally different way
