I got the unlimited plan on ee in order to use on my laptop and iPad as the phone is too small to view videos or do anything else, however I have now found out that I can only tether 100.5 gb which comes out of the gifting so the tethering is counted as gifting even though I am not giving it to anybody else and only use it on my own devices, so I think it is very disingenuous of ee to sell unlimited plan when I could have paid less for a 100gb plan which is really all I can use, since I never use the data on the phone.

Thanks @chistery . The stopping of tethering was what triggers my annoyance in the first place. HOWEVER it was MY BAD, I was too quick to jump to conclusion. On further investigation, I found it was a networking issue in my network with clashing DHCP servers that coincides with the maxing out of the giftable data. I've resolved it and yes even after the giftable data runs out it, tethering is still running for me. So apologies to all.
Having said that, it is unfortunately still true that tethering "sucks" up the gifting entitlement that can be given to family members in your family plan. So if you are tethering say 120 gb, then your gifting entitlement slowly depletes till it is zero and you are then unable to gift any data to anyone although technically you have not given ANY data to anyone and have only been using tethering.
@EssexBoyEE thanks for the suggestion of upon refresh to gift ALL 120GB to your family member. That is a good workaround and will work for me at the moment annoyingly though. I can sort of see technically why it is being done that way to have a blanket algorithm working against unlimited and non unlimited plans. I still stand to my opinion though that accounting of data for tethering and gifting should be separate and if needed should always be 120gb until you reach towards the end of you FUP e.g. 600-120 = 480 gb from which it will start to deplete your liftable data,

Hi @RedZulu Glad it's fixed and indeed it does show that you can tether after your giftable allowance has run out, despite what people are being told when they call up.

@LolaRex2 Are both devices on the same account or do you have your own individual accounts?
You can only gift data if both devices are on the same account and are both monthly contracts.
