A grand day out: Sony Xperia XZ1 and PlayStation Innovation Showcase

I was lucky to be picked to attend the Sony Showcase recently to see the latest Sony Xperia device range and the new innovative releases for PlayStation. It was fantastic!

We started our tour of the showcase with a real game changer for mobile cameras and videos. The Xperia XZ1 19 mega pixel Motion Eye camera has the most amazing slo-mo features I’ve ever seen.  The camera is easy to access (just swipe from the lock screen) and the slo-mo option is built right into the camera screen. You don’t need to stop recording, you don’t need to go to a different app; just tap the button as many times as you want.

Next we looked at messaging, gaming and augmented reality (AR) -  the 3D scanner. I was scanned the results were perfect. It looked just look me! The 3D image can then be used across a range apps to truly immerse yourself into what you’re doing. I had a go at scanning someone and was surprised how easy it was. Just  get their face lined up in the guide on the screen then just move round following the circles. To get it perfect would take a few tries but even on my first attempt the results were amazing. You can’t scan yourself so it’s the perfect time to get your friends round and all have a go. If you have access to a 3D printer you can print it  yourself or you can order them to be printed.

Sony showed us some of the other amazing tech they have launched and I was equally impressed by the Touch Projector. It has a built in android device that is controlled by you touching the surface it’s on so if you’re cooking and what to flip to the next page of a recipe don’t worry about floury fingers on your phone - just swipe the surface it’s projected onto and keep on cooking.

The next thing I experienced was Sony’s virtual reality. This was my first time using a VR headset and I was as impressed by this as all the other amazing tech I’d seen.

Sony is making gaming more inclusive, sociable and family friendly.  First they showed us Remote Play. Its only available on Xperia devices but it allows you to cast the game you’re playing to your phone and continue playing anywhere (either on the phone itself or when the phones connected to a controller). All you need to do is link your PS4 and Xperia device to the same network, it’s that simple.

Sony is helping us spend time with our friends and family without getting withdrawal symptoms from our PS4. The best bit; it doesn’t require more controllers or extra bits of kit you as just need a Play Station and a phone (preferably an Xperia but any phone will work). Download the That’s You app and up to 6 players can play the game. The game we played was one where you see how much you know about each other.  It’s great for family gatherings, nights in with friends, or if you dare, team building exercises..

So that’s my experience of the Sony showcase and the amazing tech they had on offer? What would you most like to own or try?

Do you have any of them? Let me know below!
