Pairing huawei watch with galaxy a51

I've seen a couple of posts asking for help pairing a huawei watch (gt 2) with Samsung phones. The lazy answer was to download huawei app gallery. It doesn't work. Download hms core. It doesn't work. I already have huawei health. It doesn't work. The phone will not 'see' the watch under any circumstances but my work phone a galaxy a41 sees it immediately. I am not allowed to download apps without permission so I can't use this as a solution. Any thoughts?

Hi @TonyF

Welcome to the community.

Is your phone able to find other Bluetooth devices?

Chris

Hi,

Yes it does connect to other devices such as the smart TV, laptop, car and my old fitbit BUT, now I think about it, all of these were carried over from my old phone, the new phone (A51) did not detect my work phone (A41) either. The work phone could see the watch. The only results that appeared on the A51 looked like IP addresses but none of three that appeared were the watch. I still don't know what they actually were. I hit connect on one but nothing happened so I cancelled it.

It may be worth backing up all of your information and restoring your phone to factory settings, @TonyF.

This could fix an issue like this. Could you give it a go an let us know if it's any better?

Chris

Seriously?! It's 4 weeks old! I'll be honest as a bit of a technophobe I don't like the hassle of that, it was hard enough to set the damn thing up when it was delivered. I only want to pair a watch. This is the cost of progress? Wasting hours of my life trying to make tech work because the designers are incompetent? I'll buy a plain and simple watch i think.

Hi @TonyF,

Are you pairing the Watch from the Huawei Health app? Is the watch showing in the device list in there?

You can download a quickstart guide at https://consumer.huawei.com/uk/support/wearables/watch-gt2/ for more information.

James

Yes, I tried pairing with the health app first. No, thr watch does not come up in the device list, I downloaded app gallery. It did not change anything. I downloaded hms core, same again. Bluetooth does not see the watch. The phone does see my work phone via Bluetooth, I wiped all devices in Bluetooth and tried again. No watch. I've sent the watch back now, I think its the phone at fault but I'm stuck with it for 2 years, I'll have to try another brand of watch. If that fails I will not have another  Samsung phone in future.
