Pairing 1st generation pencil with iPad

Recently purchased Apple iPad 2020 10.2 and 1st generation pen however after a lot of googling and many attempts I am unable to pair them ????

Sorry, @Melanie24 , but it’s not possible to pair a first generation pencil with any current iPad models. It’s an Apple limitation. Perhaps you can return the pencil and exchange it for a second generation one?

I was told this pen was compatible with the new iPad 10.2

@Melanie24 I’m not familiar with the 10.2” iPad. The first generation pencil was paired with the iPad by plugging the lightning plug on the pencil into the lightning port on the iPad. The second generation pencil pairs by placing it on the wireless charging pad on the top of the iPad (the long side with the volume controls). So it depends if your iPad uses a lightning power socket or usb-c.
