Did you mean:

new sim cards for samsung s8 not compatible on ee

DawnKingfisher

I have had to move from Plusnet as they are ceasing their mobile service shortly so I thought I go to EE. (Plusnet piggyback on EE). My number was ported over 24 hours ago only to find there was no internet outside of home broadband.

I spoke to EE tech support who told me the Samsung Galaxy S8 is not compatible with their new sim cards. S8 is five years old. It seems I bought a contract that despite customer services asking on more than one occasion what my phone was, I cannot use.

There are old pages telling me how to set up the S8 for EE ....but they are out of date.

Only solutions: 1] buy a new phone, or 2] cancel my contract with EE and find another provider.

Be warned ....if you want to move to EE with an S8 it won't work. I'm now tryng to find a similar deal with someone else.

So much for communications from an organisation that specialises in communication.

Hi @DawnKingfisher

Thanks for coming here.

Can you make and receive calls?

Does data work if you try the SIM card in another phone?

I have just been through the same process, EE shop staff didn’t suggest this issue, first call to tech support thought it was because S8 is 4G not 5G so sent me another SIM card. Now another at tech support ( very helpful and apologetic guy) has confirmed it’s my phone. I am beyond angry. At no time during the order process was I asked what phone I have, obviously not a new one if just getting a SIM card, Ive had over a week of disruption and now have to research other providers to check their SIM will operate on my phone. I have felt pressured to pay for a new phone, not happening. EE are supposedly the best network haha,  promoted by Plusnet as a good option to move onto. Not every phone user has the latest model. Ridiculous situation.

Please can you tell me who you found whose SIM card does work with your phone. I have the same problem. In my case both Plusnet and EE asked me for tha name of my phone. I have now had no internet for over 4 days.

I am also beyond angry. Both Plusnet and EE asked me for the make and model of my phone. I was not told it was not compatible. I have had the best part of a week lost speaking to EE support and level 1 and level 2 technical support - only after 3 days and masses of lost time did someone tell me that my phone is not compatible. Please can you tell me who you have successfully moved to. Thanks

I am also in the same boat. I have lost the best part of a week of my life on the phone to Plusnet and EE. Now no internet on phone for over 4 days. It seems that no one who works for Plusnet knows the the Samsung Galaxy S8 is incompatible with EE. The EE sales team didn’t know either and neither did 3 of the 4 technical people I spoke to in level 1 and level 2 technical support. Very annoyed as both Plusnet and EE asked me for the name and model of my phone right at the very beginning. I have raised a complaint about this with Plusnet.

Hi, I wanted to stick with the low-cost SIM only, neither O2 or Three offer these, it’s mainly MVNO (mobile virtual network operators) like Plusnet, who use one of the main networks. I got a talkmobile SIM ( uses Vodafone network) through Vodafone shop, the assistant there tried his SIM in my phone and it worked so fingers crossed, am just waiting for my number to port before I put the card in my phone. Will update once that has happened. Ironically I was on Vodafone before moving to Plusnet, as at the time they didn’t do the cheap SIMs.

That sounds like absolute waffle to me. It doesn't matter how old the phone is, a nano SIM should work fine in the S8. only thing I can think of it it's not provisioned correctly

I've had my EE sim in phones as old as the Pixel 2XL, worked fine

Thanks

You could also try a physical sim from Lyca, £5 a month for the first 6 months, 20GB data, unlimited mins/texts and 100 international minutes

They run on EE, so the speed is good
