Strange 5G issue

Doyles11
Explorer

I have a monthly pay as you go SIM with 5G. However, whilst the 5G appears to work on some apps like safari, bbc iPlayer it doesn’t work on others like TikTok and WhatsApp. I have tried all the basic troubleshooting items phone turned off/on, turned mobile data off/on, flight mode, reset network settings checked apps can be used with data. I’m now at a loss what to do next - short of going into an ee shop. Any ideas??!! Thanks

if these apps also fail on a 4G connection, it may be that your content lock is set to on - which restricts mobile data for social media sites.

Try toggling this to ON or STRICT and then OFF again - https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/safety-and-security/content-lock/switching-content-lock-on-or-off

You also refer to a "monthly PAYG SIM" - PAYG is, by definition, not pay-monthly which generally refers to a monthly billed contract. Also 5G isn't available on PAYG - so I have presumed you're on pay-monthly.

Hi @Doyles11

Thanks for coming here.

Can you access the apps on 4G?

Are you in an area with 5G coverage available at the time this happens?

Leanne 🙂

Thank you both. Yes that sorted it! Brilliant!
