Devices not connecting to new Smart Hub & booster discs

We recently got in touch with EE to change our package and were told we would receive a new Smart Hub, prior to this we had an older white router which we could access with the EE Home app.  I set up the Smart Hub today.

It was straightforward enough to get set up, our mobile phones and TV had no issues connecting, but our Google Mini and Yoto audio player are not successful in connecting to the network; in the apps for setting up these devices, they are not even finding the network to attempt a connection.

I tried turning off the 5ghz connection as I know this caused an issue on the old router, particularly when setting up the Yoto players. I also tried setting up a guest network to see if that might be more discoverable, but it didn't make any difference.

Also, with the old router we had to get two booster discs as the router did not cover the whole house. When we were told we would get the new router, we were advised the discs would work with it. I'm not able to see where I would go to set these up  as the new router isn't compatible with the old app.

Any advice on how to resolve these issues would be greatly appreciated.

I think you'll find the router is set to WiFi6 and/or WPA3. Your devices probably can't cope with that. Change the router down to WiFi5 and WPA2.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU => 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC => 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC => 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC => 2022: EE 80 Meg FTTC (no landline number)

Thanks for this suggestion. The hub was already set to WPA2 but I changed it down to WiFi 5 but still no joy.

Searching on here it seems like we were misled about the booster discs being compatible with the new hub as well, so I think we'll be cancelling this package anyway.

I’ve had some great info from a guy working for Status. They supply WiFi led bulbs. I had tried everything to get the to connect. No joy. Do not connect automatically. Select manual it will ask you to input password. Make sure this is correct because if you have migrated all info from old router it keeps the old password. If you input the new one it will not connect.
You should then go to WiFi settings and wait for the new WiFi address to come up. In my case smart life with a few numbers and letters, select that and make sure it ticks it. Don’t worry if it says not connected then go back to app and connect.

Worked for me. No switching off 5ghz or down to WiFi 5
