Phone bricked after inserting new SIM

This morning I fitted the new EE SIM after confirmation that my account had been transferred from BT.

On attempting to restart, it is totally dead.  Won't switch on, and won't even show charging when connected to USB.

Is this a known occurrence?  Is there a solution?

What device do you have?

The SIM will have nothing to do with this I'm afraid as it only interacts with the device radio. You've either had problems before or this is coincidental.

A heck of a coincidence if a phone which has been perorming faultlessly for 5 years suddenly dies on inserting the new SIM to complete the switch-over . . .

What kind of phone is it, @Geoff_Burns? Who supplied the phone to you originally?
