Roaming Abroad Pass in NZ

Please can someone help me as I’m a bit confused! With the Roaming Abroad Pass, when I am in New Zealand does that mean I can call a local NZ number at no cost, as well as calling back to the UK (I have unlimited minutes).  Can a NZ number call me whilst I am there at local rates or would they be charged for an international call?  I’ve previously changed to a local sim but it does mess up all sorts of things so it would be easier not to change it.

@Marion59 : As it is not in EU, if you are on contract, you may use your usual UK allowances there with up to 50 GB data per billing month if you have more, when you buy for £10 / month or have already as a Smart Benefit the Roam Abroad Pass or you have an EE Max Plan. Otherwise you will need to pay the charges or buy roaming add-ons as set out in https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/roaming-costs/countries/newzealand.

So, you see with the Roam Abroad Pass you may call & text local NZ, EU & UK nos. and you may receive calls free from anywhere.

If you are on contract, remember to text ROAMING to 150 before you leave UK to ensure roaming is enabled on your account.

Thank you for that info. What about if my son, who lives in NZ, calls me on his mobile whilst I am in NZ - does that cost him anything (ie is it a local call for him or does it count as an international call to a UK number?)

For your son with a NZ no. it will be an International Call at whatever rate his NZ network charges.

Ah, that’s what he thought!  If he used WhatsApp either to message or call me, would that be using data for me?

Yes, it will consume data for both of you, but beyond that it will not cost you for making calls or messaging over WhatsApp.
