Unlocking Deceased persons phone

  • A few months ago I was given a deceased relatives iphone. I had it reset at an Apple Store but it is unfortunately still locked to EE. (I am an 02 customer as EE would not give me a sim only contract) anyway, is there a way of EE please unlocking this phone? The phone number the relative had is no longer valid because the account was closed soon after them passing. So getting through to a customer support person is quite difficult!

Re: Unlocking Deceased persons phone

To unlock a 2nd-hand phone you need to call Customer Services on 0800 956 6000 (option 2, option 4) to put you in touch with the Unlocking Team to request an Unlock Code. You will be asked for your email addy. They will take payment (of £8.99) from any valid UK bank card.

Once the process has been started you will receive an email from the Unlocking Team to process the unlock. It can take up to 10 days to complete the unlock.

Re: Unlocking Deceased persons phone

Hi @acarter88

Welcome to the community.

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your relative.

Please contact our customer service team, they have a specific process for this exact situation.

They may need your relative's old mobile number.

Please let me know how you get on.

Chris

Re: Unlocking Deceased persons phone

Thank you for your response! My sister contacted them (it was her Husband who had passed away). They told her it had been blacklisted - but I am unsure of the details as they said that they would call her back with more details, which they didn't do. I am just wondering if someone from EE could look in to this if I give you the IMEI number and any other details you need?

EE will not discuss this with you, not being the a/c holder or their accredited representative.

Re: Unlocking Deceased persons phone

Hi @acarter88,

Sorry, we can't access customer accounts via the community.

A blacklisting normally indicates the phone has been reported lost or stolen.

I'm sure our customer service team will be looking into this and will contact your sister once it's sorted out.

Thanks

James
