Hi, I have an old iPhone 5 I want to pass on to a friend who doesn't use EE and need it unlocking. I don't have a spare sim to use in it, but should be able to get this iPhone 5 unlocked for free as I originally bought it with EE (well T-Mobile actually) many moons ago.
How do I go about doing this without a sim? Can I get my friend to put her sim in and then unlock it? Obviouly I don't want her to incur any unnecessary charges!
All help greatly received.

Thanks for the help, but the form needs the phone number of the iPhone without a SIM to unlock it. Hmm… any ideas? Obviously no SIM = no phone number.

@Prawnyloks You need to put the number that was used with this device. It’s doesn’t need a sim in the device.

That will be the number I’m still using and will mean adding the same number twice. Once for contact and for unlocking. That won’t affect anything with my account will it? My new iPhone is already unlocked as standard.

@Prawnyloks It will not affect anything. Just make sure the IMEI number is correct as you will have to manually enter this.

Thanks for your help Chris. I’ve filled in the form using my number and should get instructions via sms within 72 hours. Fingers crossed it works. I will report back once it’s done or if I hit further problems 👍🏻

Just a quick update…
It’s 5 working days on and I’ve not heard anything back. Does it usually takes this long?!

@Prawnyloks It takes up to 10 days. Nothing about working days. And yes it can take this long as it says up to 10 days

Cheers guys. I guess with the info I received saying 72 hours I sort of assumed that was the standard. Hey ho 🙄

Ok, it’s now 11 days and I’ve still not heard anything back. Please can someone suggest the next course of action?
