It's old. I want to set up a PAYG Tesco mobile number on it.
The current EE number is not recognised and cannot be reached - no service.
I just want the thing unlocked so he can use it for watsapp and games and occasional text.
Please, how do i do it?
Can you help?

Hi thanks, tried that, it still wants me to register it, add to account. But the phone doesn't receive calls or text as sim now invalid due to no use.
I 'll just have to pay the £8.99. Or just buy something newer, for him.
Honestly, you would think with all the money these people make an 8-10 year old phone unlock would be free!
Surely they've had their pound of flesh!

Where did you get this device? Did you buy it yourself new direct from EE or is it 2nd-hand? The unlocking process & costs are different. Is it on contract or PAYG? How old is it?

It was given to us by a friend. it was locked to EE. so we bought a sim card and all went well, £10 pay went so quickly.
It's got to be old we have had 2 new phones since then 2 year contracts, so 4-6 maybe 8-10 who knows, it's a 5c, beaten up, but still going!
If i buy a new payg £10 ee sim card, and put it in...will I then be able to unlock it Free?

You cannot just use a new EE PAYG SIM to get it unlocked for 2nd-hand phones.
To unlock a 2nd-hand phone you need to call Customer Services on +44 800 956 6000 (option 2, option 4) to put you in touch with the Unlocking Team to request an Unlock Code. You will be asked for your email addy. They will take payment (of £8.99) from any valid UK bank card.
Once the process has been started you will receive an email from the Unlocking Team to process the unlock. It can take up to 10 days to complete the unlock.
But even so beware that EE could still refuse to unlock it. Many phones sold 2nd-hand have been reported lost or stolen, have been sold by the original owner when under 6 months old without EE's permission or have money owing on them.
If that is the case your only remedy is against whoever you got the phone from.
