Why do ee lock your phone after being a loyal customer for several years. It was unlocked until I ported my number to another network. Not happy. How can I unlock my galaxy s8...

Many networks do the same. If you want a SIM-Free unlocked phone look on the Web.
Did you buy this device yourself new direct from EE or is it 2nd-hand? The unlocking process & costs are different. Is it on contract or PAYG? How old is it?

Had this on contract for 2 years so the phone is mine I have paid in full for it. So are you suggesting that end of contract phones are tossed in the bin and then we should trawl the web for an unlocked phone.

I'm not suggesting anything; just asking you a few Qs so as to be able to answer yours.
If the device had been on your contract for at least 6 months, even if that contract has now been cancelled, you can just apply using the Unlocking your device form as the Pay Monthly option and giving the mobile number that it originally came with. It will first show your new current phone on that number, if any, & ask whether that is the device you want to unlock? If not, you will then have to type in the IMEI of the old phone.

It's a galaxy s8 on monthly contract. Was unlocked until yesterday when at the end of a 2yr contract, have been with ee for a few years, I ported my number.
Now the phone is locked.

Had you asked EE to unlock it previously? Unlocked phones don't suddenly lock themselves unless you had it done by a backstreet unlocker.
What other network SIMs had you used in it?

Have used o2 before. My new sim is giffgaff,o2, and I set it up on my s8 last night. Ported my number etc, took out new sim and replaced old ee sim. This morning received msg saying porting had been done so placed new sim in phone again, and its locked. The new sim is not locked as I am now using it in another phone. The phone has not been touched by any dodgy back street dealers etc.

Had you asked EE to unlock it previously? All phones bought from EE are locked to EE until you ask EE to unlock them.

No, never requested ee to unlock. Actually got the phone from carphone warehouse as an upgrade and recall asking if the phone was locked or not. Would not have bought it if it was locked.

Ah, now you tell me you didn't get it direct from EE.
You cannot use the online unlocking form for phones not bought direct from EE.
To unlock a phone not bought direct from EE you need to call Customer Services on +44 800 956 6000 (option 2, option 4) to put you in touch with the Unlocking Team to request an Unlock Code. You will be asked for your email addy. They will take payment (of £8.99) from any valid UK bank card.
Once the process has been started you will receive an email from the Unlocking Team to process the unlock. It can take up to 10 days to complete the unlock.
