I thought it was free to unlock my phone from the ee network on payg!?

Recently on the ee website I read that it was free to unlock your phone from the ee network on payg now I've been informed that I need to pay £8.99!? I read this about 2weeks ago. Do I have to pay or not on payg?

Provided it is a phone you bought direct from EE as PAYG, there is no charge for unlocking it.

Otherwise, if you obtained from somewhere/somebody else, there is £8.99 charge.
