How to unlock an EE pay as you go phone or device

If you've purchased a pay as you go phone or device on EE and ever want to use it with a different network SIM – you'll find it's locked to EE.

 

In this post we'll cover what you need to get the device unlocked.

From 01 August 2017 any Apple device which was purchased directly from EE on or after 1 September 2015 will be unlocked automatically once the device reaches 18 months old.

 

This means you may not need to request your device to be unlocked if the Apple device was purchased on or after 1 September 2015.

 

You can now check the lock status of your EE Apple device via the online unlock request form or by texting UNLOCK to 150, using an EE SIM card.

 

 

Unlocking a pay as you go device

 

 

  • The device must not be blacklisted (reported lost or stolen).

 

  • The pay as you go account must be active and fully registered.

 

  • It must not be a pay monthly device that is less than 6 months old.

 

  • There is no cost involved to unlock the device if you originally purchased the device from EE. If not, it's £8.99.

 

 

 

There are two ways to request the unlock:

2. Give Customer Care a call >

 

 

If your pay as you go account isn't registered - please give Customer Care a quick call to get this registered first.

Hi@James_B hope I'm not polluting this thread, but is there any guidance or advice on status and timeframes?

I called on the 12th of March to unlock my PAYG device (Motorola Moto One Macro) and was told it would take up to ten days. Got a text on the 14th telling me I'd get an email in ten days. And still haven't received anything and I'm none the wiser.

 

I don't want to call as I'm sure the lines are busier than normal and don't want to prevent folks needing immediate assistance from getting help.

I'm not aware of any unlocking delays at the moment.

 

Please could you check your spam/junk email folder and let me know if you can see any emails from EE?
