How do I know if my device is unlocked?

Hiya,

I recently purchased a new sim to put into my phone I spoke to a guy on EE and he told me as I have had my iPhone for 3 years it should have automatically unlocked itself all I needed to do was to reset my whole phone. Upon doing this I tried to insert the sim into the phone the same message keeps being displayed of “sim not supported” how do I go about getting this fixed? Is it the phone, Apple or EE that would be able to deal with this matter?
Thanks.

Re: How do I know if my device is unlocked?

As it wasn't bought direct from EE iPhones are not auto unlocked after 18 months.

To unlock a phone not bought direct from EE you need to call Customer Services on +44 800 956 6000 (option 2, option 4) to put you in touch with the Unlocking Team to request an Unlock Code. You will be asked for your email addy. They will take payment (of £8.99) from any valid UK bank card.

Once the process has been started you will receive an email from the Unlocking Team to process the unlock. It can take up to 10 days to complete the unlock.

@LucieSmith1 : Did the SIM work before you reset the phone? Is it an EE SIM?

Where did you get this device originally? Did you buy it yourself new direct from EE or is it 2nd-hand? The unlocking process & costs are different. Was it on contract or PAYG? How old is it?

No the sim did not originally  work before I wiped my phone. No it isn’t an EE sim.  No the phone wasn’t from EE on contract I got it 3 years ago from car phone warehouse but it was an upgrade from an old EE contract to a new EE contract.

No, you can't unlock it using MyEE. I've just told you above how to get EE to unlock it.
