Contract ends on 16th Jan am I better off waiting after 16th to end contract?

My contract ends on 16th January 2019. Am I better off cancelling my contract after the 16th as I won't have to pay £8.99 to unlock my phone?

Yes, but you 1st have to give your 30-days notice to cancel. You should do that immediately by phoning EE & it will expire on 9 Feb at which time you can get it unlocked for free.
