SMS Centre Number does not update

Hi,

 

I recently came back to this country. I purchased a new EE Sim Card (Pay As You Go) a few weeks ago. However, since then, I cannot send texts. I do receive them though. I can also call and receive calls.

 

I made a lot of trips to a EE store and made calls to the helpline. Overall, I spent a lot of time to solve this issue that is still ongoing. I know the problem comes from the SMS Centre Number. Each time I am updating it, it has no effect, and my texts are not sent. I tried everything: putting +44 before the number, "+44XXXXX", 145, etc. I still cannot send texts.

 

When I go back to check on my SMS Centre number, there is always a blank space. However, when I click on "refresh", the one I just put reappears.

 

When I use the "+44XXXXX", 145 version, I receive the message "update-error".

 

I have a Nokia 3 (Android). I have 2 Sim Cards on my phone: the EE one and a French one. I tried to only use the EE Sim Card, but the situation was even more catastrophic since I could not update at all. 

 

I need to mention that I already had another EE Sim Card with this phone, and it worked perfectly well!

 

Please, help me!

Welcome to the community.

 

Are you able to try putting your SIM card in another phone and sending a text?

 

Have you tried factory resetting your phone?

Thank you so much for your help.

 

I did try to put the Sim card on another phone, and I managed to send a text.

 

I did not try to factory reset my phone because I believe this would delete all of my data - which is something I would very much like to avoid.

It sounds in this case like the issue is following the phone.

 

Could you try backing up your data first before a reset?

 

Is your phone on the latest software version?

I just backed up my data - will this enable me to recover it after a factory reset? 

 

Yes, my phone is the latest software version: Android 9.

 

So, do you think I should reset my phone to solve this issue?

Where did you back up your data?

 

This will be the best current option to get it working again.

I backed up my data using Google Drive, which is the option proposed under Settings

You will be able to recover your data once you've reset the phone.

I reset my phone and recovered my data.

It was a long process, but I can finally send texts.
