RCS chat in Android messages - sending MMS

I have a question about sending pictures, for example.

If you send a picture by MMS it costs 40p I think.

If you send a picture by 'chat' it's no cost, all part of the data allowance.

In Android Messages, the option is that when you send a message, it can attempt to send it as a 'chat' but if it fails then it will revert back to sms or mms. (a great idea, like I message on apple).

What if I send a picture thinking of will go on data but the app then reverts it back to mms. What happens then?

I want the confidence to send pictures, gifs, files etc and not be charged!

Thanks for looking.

Re: RCS chat in Android messages - sending MMS

If it fails on RCS and reverts to MMS then you will be charged.

EE cant assure you this wont happen as there are factors that could effect it like RCS could be down. Or your receiver RCS is down not turned on etc.

Thanks for the response.

It's what I feared and now I won't use it as the cost can't be justify.

What phone do you have? On my Samsung I can set it to not convert to SMS/MMS so it'll just fail to send.
