'Failed to send' notification on texts

Since last night I've been getting a 'Failed to send' notification on text messages. They send eventually, but this can take multiple attempts. I can receive and make calls with no problems. I've checked that the SMS centre number is correct. Not sure what else to do.

 

Additional details: I'm on a SIM contract with unlimited texts

Every so often my phone switches to 'Emergency calls only' by itself

My phone is a Huawei P9 Lite

If I switch to aeroplane mode then back, that sometimes temporarily fixes the problem Switching my phone off then back on temporarily fixes it as well

My texts are failing to send to all numbers, not a particular number

I can receive texts with no problems.
