Will pay as you go sim lock my phone?

I'm looking to move my existing phone which is currently unlocked and using a BT account over to EE. I'm worried that when I put the EE sim card into my phone it will lock to the EE network and that I'll then have to pay to unlock it - can anyone confirm whether or not it will do this?
