Re: i have no service in south africa

Hi there @LaraNot

All you need to go to our EE Shop moving pay as you go to pay monthly  and select the phone and plan you would like to order.

Are you able to have a family member receive the delivery at your address?

They need to have their own photo ID, but as long as they have the same surname as you, they will be able to sign for the delivery at your address on your behalf whilst you are in South Africa.

Leanne.

Re: i have no service in south africa

@LaraNot  Did you activate roaming on your account before you left the UK ?  This is done by calling customer services or by texting ROAMING to 150.

Re: i have no service in south africa

Hi @LaraNot,

Welcome to the EE Community.

If you login to My EE and select 'Manage device' from the menu, is 'Roaming abroad' ticked?

Thanks

Re: i have no service in south africa

No I didn't notify EE - I forgot 🙂

Presumed I could do it online and top up as I'm a pay as you go client.

Re: i have no service in south africa

Hi @LaraNot,

If you are a pay as you go customer, your roaming services will already be activated.

Do you have any credit in your account?

Does your phone show any signal bars?

Thanks

Re: i have no service in south africa

Hi @James_B

I go to "manage device" but nowhere can I find where it says "roaming abroad" for me to confirm whether it is ticked or not......

Re: i have no service in south africa

Hi @James_B

I have credit and I'm connected to a wifi but it says "no service" - I've tried selecting a provider and "automatically select" network provider and to no avail.

I am using an iPhone 8 if that helps for further info.

Re: i have no service in south africa

No problem @LaraNot, I've removed the solution for you.

Can you double check that your phone isn't in Airplane mode and try restarting your phone?

Thanks

Re: i have no service in south africa

Thank you @James_B

Yes I've tried it all.

Double checked that my Data Roaming is on, not in airplane mode - nothing works except I'm connected to Wifi and a friends house.  All I can do is Whatsapp and iMessage and I desperately need to be able to send and receive texts.

Re: i have no service in south africa

Have you been able to try using your phone in more than one location @LaraNot

Just to rule out it being a local network issue.

Re: i have no service in south africa

Hi @LaraNot

Can you make and receive calls?

When was the last time you made any of the below chargeable activities?

  • Voice and data usage. This includes making calls, sending text messages and picture messages, retrieving a voicemail, and using data.
  • Topping up your account.
  • Buying a Pack or an Add-on.

Thanks, Leanne 🙂

Re: i have no service in south africa

@Leanne_T

No I can't make or receive calls

I was active buying and using up until New Year's Eve when I flew to SA........

I'm seriously wondering if it is the phone (iPhone 😎 as I've had issues before, so I am trying to take out a contract with EE online for the same number but an eSim for my iPhone Xs - will this be possible?

Re: i have no service in south africa

Hi there @LaraNot.

You can keep your pay as you go number and transfer this to a contract account.

For details on eSIM, see our Dual SIM on EE support article for full information.

Thanks, Leanne.

Re: i have no service in south africa

@Leanne_T

Thank you so, so much, however:

1. I want to keep my number and transfer it to a contract account which seems possible (great) and I can do this online.

2. BUT, I can't phone or visit an EE store for a month.....until I return to UK and I currently can't send or receive texts - can you assist me to do this online?
