Why can't I use data in Iran?

Hi, I bought 20GB of data for my trip to Iran. There is plenty of 3G around but I can't access it even though I paid for the add-on. 

 

If I turn my phone off and on, or if I switch to airplane mode, and then off again, I will get the 3G for 10 seconds before it disappears. 

 

Please help. I spent £20 on this data and need to be able to use it.

Hi, 

 

  • Did you buy the zone D add on?
  • Do you have roaming active on your account? 
  • Have you tried manually selecting a mobile network? 

 

This covers many, places but it maybe that EE doesn't have any roaming partners in Iran hence you cannot connect to the network. You might need to contact CS, if a pay monthly customer you can use live chat ( click on the cross next to EE and the live chat function will be visible) after 8am UK time.

EE standard opening hours are 8am to 9pm weekday, 8am to 8pm on weekends.

Thanks so much for your reply. In answer to your questions, yes:

 

I did buy the zone D add-on; roaming is activated and I have tried all of the networks here. Still no joy.

Thanks for your message. I've not been able to attempt a live chat. During the time EE is available for a chat, I'm out, without wifi and without data. So it's a difficult situation.

To make matters worse, I received a text from EE saying I had used up 80% of my data!! God knows how that's possible when I've not been able to use the internet. Even if I could, how can some use almost 20mb in one day!? I'm pretty disappointed and will accept that I can't be using data here but I will certainly be looking for a refund from EE when I'm back home.
