Roaming says I'm in the wrong country?

I'm in holiday in Corfu. For 2 days my phone has text me saying I'm in Greece so can use my normal plan. Today it says I'm in Albania and will be charged for any calls or data. Can't be doing with stress of running up a potential big bill because ee can't read a map. Any suggestions to resolve?

Re: Roaming says I'm in the wrong country?

@GRIFF1: You must be near the coast towards Albania where its signals might be stronger than the local signals. Try searching the networks for a local, Greek, network.

Re: Roaming says I'm in the wrong country?

Hi @GRIFF1

Welcome to the community, I hope you're having a lovely time in Greece. 🙂

I think @XRaySpeX is correct, we've had a few people in the past mention this when roaming in Corfu.

So remember to check the name of the network shown on your phone before you make a call if you're near the border of another country.

You can see instructions on how to do a manual network search below:-

  • iPhone – Settings > Carrier > Toggle Automatic OFF
  • Android – Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Network Operators > Tap OK
  • Windows – Settings > Mobile Network > Network Selection > Tap on start manual search

Enjoy the rest of your holiday. 😄

Thanks guys. Ive now re-connected to wind and I haven't made any calls, also been on wifi in hotel so hopefully no charges accrued.

Re: Roaming says I'm in the wrong country?

One of the "benefits" of EE is that you can't use data without an add-on. If you do roam onto another network outside the EU, you won't accidently run up any unknown costs.

Calls are different and you will be charged, but you're ok having data turned on near an EU border.

Can't find what you're looking for?

One of these options may help you find the answers you need.
