Roaming in the USA

I just left the UK for an extended period in the USA and set up my PAYG phones by setting automatic search and texting ROAMING to 150.

I am now in large city in the USA and when I turn on the phone the Searching becomes active but the result is always Emergency. I have read in an EE forum that AT&T & T-Mobile should be accessible.

I have a US PAYG phone on AT&T that works in the same place.

Re: Roaming in the USA

PAYG has no need to text ROAMING. They are auto enabled for roaming.

Take off auto search & do a manual search for AT&T & T-Mobile.

Do you have credit to use the phone in USA? Your pack is not usable there. YYou will need to pay the charges as set out in https://ee.co.uk/help/add-ons-benefits-and-plans/call-or-going-abroad/roaming-costs/countries/usa .

Re: Roaming in the USA

Hi there @coeeyore

Hope you are having a great time 🙂

Are you able to manually select a network in your device settings?

Has the phone connected to a network since you have been in the USA?

Speak soon 🙂

Leanne.

Hi @coeeyore

Thanks for coming back to me.

Did the SIM work in the UK before you left?

When was the SIM last used?

Leanne 🙂

Re: Roaming in the USA

Hi Leanne

The SIM was working fine for the past 6 months and was last used a few days
ago (we have 2 of the same phones and both do the same thing), the first
time I tried the T-Mobile icon was OK but now it's a STOP sign

cheers

Re: Roaming in the USA

Do you know which model Mobiwire flip phone it is, @coeeyore?

I'll try and find some device specific help for you.

Re: Roaming in the USA

Thanks @coeeyore

The Mobiwire Koi is a 2G enabled phone, it doesn't work on 3G and 4G networks. It should still work in the USA, but it will be down to local coverage.

Re: Roaming in the USA

Hmmm the sales people didn't advise us of that

It appears that there is a small 2G area not far away so I will go and try
it

Re: Roaming in the USA

The 2G zone found T-mobile but every time I try to connect it spends a long time trying to register before failing. I did see 5 bars at the end of the process whereas it showed - - - before.

So how do I get T-Mobile to recognise EE?

Re: Roaming in the USA

Hello @coeeyore

Thanks for trying this.

The device will connect when a 2G network is available, you can do a manual network search to see what networks are available and see if you can connect to these.

Leanne.
