On holiday abroad and unable to make calls.

Hi! I am on holiday in Colombia and am unable to make any calls or texts to any numbers. When I try to make a call I get an error message 'mobile network unavailable' even though my phone tells me I am connected to the local 'movistar' network.

Is there anything I can do to resolve this?

Many thanks

@evernon50  Login to your EE online account and enable international and premium rate numbers.

Hi @evernon50

Are you on PAYG or a pay monthly contract?

Have you roaming and international calls activated on your account? If not then you need to log into your online account and activate these services to be able to roam. You can also find the association costs here.

Thanks

Re: On holiday abroad and unable to make calls.

Hi @evernon50

Hope you're having a brilliant time. Colombia is an unusual holiday destination, but I bet it's amazing. 🙂

Are you able to use other services like mobile data?

Re: On holiday abroad and unable to make calls.

Hi! I can use my mobile data yes. But don't seem to be able to make/receive calls or texts. People say I need to log in to my EE online account and activate this. Do you know how I can do this?

Thanks again

Re: On holiday abroad and unable to make calls.

Good Morning @evernon50.

You will need to register for an online account if you have not already done so.

Once logged in if you select My EE Mobile > Manage your device.

The settings for roaming abroad need to be changed to allowed.

Let us know how you get on.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday. 🙂

Katie.

Re: On holiday abroad and unable to make calls.

Hi Katie

Thanks for this. I checked and the roaming setting is set to 'allowed'

I still can't receive calls or texts. I am going to try to call EE using Skype but let me know if there is anything else that you think would help

Thanks again

Hi @evernon50

Thanks for trying this.

When you checked your roaming settings in your My EE account, did call abroad and premium rate show as allowed?

Re: On holiday abroad and unable to make calls.

Hi @evernon50

Have you tried a manual network search and connecting to another network?

Device type Steps
Apple Settings > Carrier > Toggle Automatic OFF
Android Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Network Operators > Tap OK
Windows Settings > Mobile Network > Network Selection > Tap on start manual search

Re: On holiday abroad and unable to make calls.

Thanks Chris,

I did try this. So I have now moved to Bogota in Colombia and have gained some limited functionality with calls and texts. I still can't make calls but have received a couple of texts since I arrived here.

It seems like EE only functions in some parts of Colombia. I think I'll just have to live with that for now.

Thanks for all the help
